KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno has firmly rejected the possibility of Shahelmey Yahya running under the Barisan Nasional (BN) banner for the upcoming Sabah state election in Tanjung Keramat.
As reported by FMT, Sabah Umno leader Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin addressed Shahelmey’s recent remarks regarding Putatan Umno chief Jeffrey Nor Mohamed’s candidacy in Tanjung Keramat.
Shahelmey attempted to downplay the situation, suggesting that the final list of BN candidates would only be finalised with the issuance of official letters as the election date approaches.
Jeffrey was officially designated as BN’s candidate for the state seat last October.
“Sabah Umno and BN have never considered him (Shahelmey) as a candidate,” Bung stated.
“There’s no need for him to harbour such lofty ambitions,” he added, emphasising that Umno does not accommodate disloyal members.
Bung also challenged Shahelmey to run for the seat with another party.
“If he wishes to contest under a different party, he is welcome to do so. Umno is ready to face him at any time,” he remarked.
Shahelmey was suspended from Umno in January 2023 after he opposed the party’s decision to withdraw from its alliance with Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, continuing to support Hajiji as chief minister despite Umno’s withdrawal.
