KOTA KINABALU: Local authorities (PBT) are urged to monitor the rental prices of Ramadan bazaar sites across Sabah.
In making this call, Putatan UMNO chief Jeffery Nor Mohamed stressed the importance of this action due to reports indicating a significant increase in rental prices resulting from allocations to secondary parties.
He said that monitoring is essential to prevent these rental sites from being leased to third parties.
“It is well known that many of the vendors at the Ramadan bazaar are not permanent traders; they seek additional income to support their expenses during the festive season.
“Efforts to assist should be ingrained in the ethos of every local authority regarding these Ramadan bazaar vendors, as this is not the time to prioritise profit,” he remarked in a statement today.
Jeffery, who also serves as the Director of UMNO Sabah’s Election Campaign, asserted that rental prices must be fair to all vendors and should reflect a reasonable rate to avoid burdening them in securing capital for their bazaar businesses.
“This is the right time, especially as we collectively celebrate the month of Ramadan, to embrace the concept of assistance so that bazaar vendors can earn supplementary income during the fasting month without being weighed down by high rental costs,” he added.
