KOTA KINABALU: All statements from the state government regarding increased state revenue, foreign investment growth, the development of the Pan Borneo Project, and other initiatives are nothing more than a manipulation of figures and flowery language.
In reality, the people of Sabah do not experience the touted economic growth; instead, they face numerous challenges under the leadership of GRS.
Nabila Norsahar, the Deputy Chief of the Srikandi Wing of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), described this situation as deeply embarrassing, as fundamental issues crucial to the youth of Sabah remain unresolved.
She pointed out that the unemployment rate in Sabah remains the highest in Malaysia at 7.7 percent compared to other states.
“Even more concerning is that the Sabah Labour Advisory Council, established in 2023, has failed to provide any meaningful solutions to address this serious issue.
“Moreover, data released indicates that the unemployment rate in Sabah has not improved since the third quarter of 2024, and it is particularly disappointing that the Department of Statistics has reported that Sabah’s unemployment rate is still significantly higher than the national average.
“Why is this still happening? How long must we be burdened by these problems? What will become of the youth in Sabah? Is it not evident that all announcements claiming economic growth in Sabah are merely attempts to deceive the people?” she said in a statement here today.
Nabila, who is also the Sabah Bersatu’s Srikandi Wing chief, emphasised that economic growth should fundamentally be reflected in the availability of job opportunities, rather than allowing the youth of Sabah to remain trapped in endless unemployment.
She asserted that it is clear the state government has failed to effectively manage the state and bring about necessary changes.
