KOTA KINABALU: Former Deputy Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, has secured his position as President of the Sabah Dusunic Languages Preservation Association (KBDS) without contest during the Biennial General Meeting (AGM) at the Conference Hall of the Penampang Library today.
Also retaining their positions unopposed are Datuk Eric Majimbun as Deputy President, Gundohing Petrus Guriting as Secretary-General, and Gundohing Lothar Michael as Treasurer.
The elected committee members include Dato Webley Disim (who will be appointed as assistant treasurer), Alex Kando, Soguli Olid, and Sitiamah Sahat (to be appointed as assistant secretary general).
All of them were elected without contest.
Other committee positions will be filled once the amendments to the association’s constitution are approved by the Registrar of Societies.
In his speech, Gimbang urged KBDS members to intensify their efforts to empower and preserve the Dusun language, particularly among the younger generation.
He highlighted that KBDS has initiated programs such as the Orthography Workshop, Dictionary, and BLOOM, which took place at The Kaingaran, Kampung Dalungan Tambunan, in October 2023.
The association, among others, aims to encourage the Kadazan-Dusun community to speak the Dusun language according to their respective dialects to ensure its survival through the ages.
