Bribery: MACC records statements from 18 Sabah assemblymen—Azam Baki

KOTA KINABALU – A total of 18 Sabah assemblymen have come forward to provide statements in response to allegations surrounding a corruption scandal linked to a video that surfaced on a news portal.

As reported by Sinarharian, Tan Sri Azam Baki, the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), announced that the investigation into this matter has reached completion, with the investigation papers now submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.

“However, the deputy public prosecutor has requested that the investigating officers gather additional statements, which are still pending finalisation,” he stated during a press conference at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Tuesday, discussing the latest updates on ongoing investigations.

He highlighted that the 18 Sabah Assembly Members provided their statements between November 2024 and early January of this year.

“The Sabah police are also actively investigating this case, and the MACC is working in close collaboration with them, sharing information as part of the inquiry.

“To date, the MACC has initiated two investigation papers under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009,” he concluded.
