Five Malaysian pairs advance to the semifinals of the India Open

KOTA KINABALU; Five Malaysian pairs have successfully advanced to the semifinals of their respective events at the 2025 India Open in New Delhi, showcasing their exceptional skills at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex on Friday.

The top men’s doubles duo, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, had a straightforward victory against Taiwan’s Lee Fang Chih and Lee Fang Jen, winning 21-11, 21-17. They are set to face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between South Korea’s Jin Yong and Kang Min Hyuk and the home team’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

Joining them in the semifinals is Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who triumphed over the Thai pair Kittinupong Kedren and Dechapol Puavaranukroh with a close score of 21-18, 21-18.

They will compete against either South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae or China’s Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang.

In mixed doubles, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei secured their spot by defeating Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat with a score of 21-16, 21-17.

They will take on the French duo Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue. Meanwhile, Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie also advanced after overcoming Taiwanese opponents Yang Po Hsuan and Hu Ling Fang, winning 21-11, 21-15, and will face the Chinese pair Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin.

The national women’s doubles team of Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah fought hard to defeat Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto in a thrilling match that lasted an hour, finishing with scores of 21-18, 21-19.

They are set to meet the eighth-seeded South Korean pair Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Yong in their semifinal match on Saturday.
