Gagasan Rakyat leader slams Hamzah over legacy issues

KOTA KINABALU: A Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) leader has taken to task Bersatu deputy president Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin for accusing the GRS (Gabungan Rakyat Sabah) government of failing to address the people’s  infrastructure needs.

“For your information Datuk Hamzah, the water, electricity and road problems have not just surfaced but had been extant for a very long time,” said Gagasan Rakyat Tandek chief Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok.

He said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor and his GRS government had been doing their level best to address the situation.

Dr Janathan lamented that it was outrageous and ridiculous for Hamzah  to simply criticise the GRS government over these legacy issues.

The GRS government, he explained, inherited these problems and was now making sure it would be resolved as soon as possible.

“Don’t turn it into a political issue to gain the people’s support…don’t resort to finger-pointing, play the blame game. If you are confident prove it at the upcoming state election,” Dr Janathan said.

And, he also reminded Hamzah that Sabahans would not be misled into thinking that power, water and road issues surfaced only after the last state election in 2020.

Meanwhile Dr Janathan recalled that the Chief Minister had not long ago asked the people to be patient over these issues, assuring that his government was doing its best to address them.

And, he had also told critics not to blow the matter out of proportion.

“The Chief Minister also mentioned that Sabah had sought federal government funding to resolve the power supply woes which the SESB has blamed on technical problems with high-voltage lines that triggered trips at power stations.

Dr Janathan added that the Chief Minister had also briefed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya on Sabah’s plans to address the water problem.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the federal government’s RM320,250,000 aid to Sabah would expedite the state’s short-term plans to resolve water woes.

They involved the implementation of six programmes encompassing 20 projects throughout the state including nine under districts plans for Kota Kinabalu city, Tuaran, Putatan, Papar, Beaufort, Keningau, Tawau, Lahad Datu and Sandakan.
