TEKUN aims to assist 5,300 entrepreneurs in Sabah this year: Ewon

KOTA BELUD: TEKUN Nasional, an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), has set a target to support 5,300 entrepreneurs in Sabah with a financing allocation of RM150 million for this year.

Its Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick stated that in 2024, RM149 million has already been disbursed to 2,884 entrepreneurs under TEKUN in Sabah.

“During the same period, RM11 million was allocated to 158 entrepreneurs in the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency.

“Overall, TEKUN Nasional has provided business financing amounting to RM1.1 billion to 65,642 entrepreneurs in Sabah since its establishment in 1998, up to December 2024.

“Of this total, RM65 million has been allocated to 3,781 entrepreneurs in Kota Belud. This achievement demonstrates that TEKUN remains relevant and is a preferred financing option among informal and micro-entrepreneurs in the country,” he remarked.

He said this in his speech when officiating the Basic Entrepreneurship Seminar at Tag Valley Taginambur, here today.

Also present were Noor Afifah Abdul Razak, Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Policy and Monitoring), Dato’ Haji Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, Chairman of Tekun Nasional, Dato Adam Abdul Ghani, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tekun, and Hemin Osumping, Manager of Tekun Sabah.

Ewon noted that as of December 31, 2024, TEKUN Nasional has conducted 1,026 series of Basic Entrepreneurship Seminars nationwide, with a total of 300,401 entrepreneurs participating in these programs.

“The target for 2025 for the Basic Entrepreneurship Seminar in Sabah is to reach 1,800 participants across six seminar sessions,” he added.

He emphasized that successful entrepreneurs are those who possess strong knowledge and the necessary skills to manage their businesses effectively.

“TEKUN Nasional plays a significant role in supporting small entrepreneurs by providing comprehensive financing and training,” he added.
