Goh: FCAS and DBKK to jointly host “Joyful Spring Festival Night” on Jan 25 to usher in the Year of the Snake

KOTA KINABALU, 4 January, 2025:Tan Sri T.C Goh, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS), today announced that FCAS, in collaboration with Kota Kinabalu City Hall, will be hosting the “2025 Year of the Snake Spring Festival Carnival” this month.

He also revealed that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will officiate the carnival’s opening ceremony on January 24, while Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister cum Member of Parliament for Kota Kinabalu, Datuk Chan Foong Hin will grace the “Joyful Spring Festival Night” celebration as the guest of honor on January 25.

Goh, who is also the President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong), said Chan expressed his support for the annual celebration during the courtesy call by the FCAS leadership team and the organising committee of the Year of the Snake Spring Festival Carnival, on Saturday.

Those present at the courtesy call included Chan’s Private Secretary, Kaven Lee,
FCAS Vice President and Organizing Committee Chairman, Kapitan Fung Chun Fat; Vice President Haw Yong Sai, Central Committee Members Titi Lee and Tan Guan Hock, as well as organizing committee members Ricky Lee、Madeleine Lee & Yee Tung Hao, among others. During the occasion, the delegation also presented an invitation to the Deputy Minister to attend the event.

Chan expressed his admiration and support for FCAS’s unwavering commitment to preserving Chinese culture and traditions under Goh’s leadership.

He praised FCAS for its dedication to organizing a host of meaningful programs and activities which enriched the Chinese New Year celebrations, despite various challenges. He also acknowledged that relocating the event to Merdeka Square this year is an exciting and groundbreaking move.

During his briefing, Goh explained that the “Year of the Snake Spring Festival Carnival” will take place from January 24 to 26 at the Merdeka Square here.

The three-night event will feature a host of interesting programs, including lion dances, singing and dancing performances by primary and secondary school students, cultural exhibitions, food stalls, and interactive activities, to create a vibrant festive atmosphere.

He hopes this grand annual cultural event will offer the public a refreshing experience while further promoting the charm and value of Chinese culture, and bringing the multiracial community together in celebrating the Lunar New Year.

Goh was convinced that this grand event would attract enthusiastic participation from people across various communities, making it a highlight of Chinese New Year celebrations in Sabah and Kota Kinabalu.

He hopes this grand annual cultural event will offer the public a refreshing experience while further promoting the charm and value of Chinese culture, and bringing the multiracial community together in celebrating the Lunar New Year.
