LAHAD DATU: His Excellency Yeo Seung Bae, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, conveyed his gratitude to the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) for its efforts in ensuring the safety of tourists, particularly citizens of the Republic of Korea, visiting the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESS Zone).
He made these remarks during a courtesy visit to ESSCOM at its office here on Tuesday.
Additionally, he expressed his comfort with this visit, which he deemed crucial for understanding the security situation in the ESS Zone, enabling accurate information to be relayed to his citizens to encourage more tourists from the Republic of Korea to visit Malaysia in general and Sabah in particular.
Meanwhile, ESSCOM Commander YDH DCP Datuk Victor B Sanjos, in his response, thanked the ambassador and his delegation for taking the time to visit ESSCOM to gain firsthand insight into the current situation in the ESS Zone.
“I hope this visit will further strengthen the relationship between both parties and, most importantly, align with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ aspirations through ESSCOM. We hope that the government of the Republic of Korea will prioritise lifting travel advisories and encourage its citizens to visit the East Coast of Sabah.
“Hopefully, following this visit, we will see a significant increase in tourist arrivals from the Republic of Korea,” he added.
Earlier, the ambassador and his delegation were given a comprehensive briefing on the security and well-being of the community, which has significantly improved in the East Coast of Sabah since the establishment of the ESS Zone and ESSCOM over 11 years ago.
Also present were the Chief Executive Officer of ESSCOM, Datuk Dr. Jamaluddin bin Mohd. Ali; Deputy Commander of ESSCOM and Brigadier General Mohamad Ismail bin Kamarudin.
