SEMPORNA: A Chinese tourist was found drowned in the waters off Mabul Island on Friday.
The body of the man, believed to be in his 30s, was located near the area where he was reported missing, at a depth of 17 meters, following a search operation conducted by the Semporna Marine Police (PPM) with assistance from divers from a nearby resort.
Semporna District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Sabri Zainol, said that when the victim was discovered, he was still wearing a grey backpack containing three bricks, around 11:35 AM.
An autopsy will be conducted within 48 hours unless someone comes forward to claim the body, he said in a statement last night.
In this regard, Mohd Sabri urged anyone with information about the victim to contact Investigating Officer Assistant Superintendent Mohd Ali Amat at 013-2120852, the Semporna Police Station at 089-782020, or to visit any nearby police station.
