KOTA KINABALU: Following allegations of a ‘cartel’ seeking to mine approximately five percent of land in Sabah, Warisan has raised further questions, particularly regarding the number of state assemblymen implicated in the scandal.
Warisan’s Information Chief, Azis Jamman, made this statement in response to an FMT article, which cited sources indicating that between 2022 and 2024, the cartel applied for around 20 mining licenses covering nearly one million acres.
“Does this suggest that 20 different YBs are involved? If so, who are these representatives aside from those already identified by whistleblowers? The public deserves a full disclosure of all individuals linked to these applications,” Azis said.
Earlier, a whistleblower claimed to possess additional video recordings related to the matter.
The businessman revealed several videos allegedly containing discussions about payments made to politicians in exchange for their support in obtaining mining licenses in Sabah.
The source claimed that these licenses were recommended to Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM) for approval without any due diligence backing the applications.
“At each SMM board meeting, more applications are submitted by companies controlled by the businessman for mining rights in various areas,” the source was quoted as saying.
