Sabah Scandal Viral Video: Has Money Changed Hands? asked Warisan

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan’s Information Chief, Mohd Azis Jamman, emphasised that the state government has only issued denials thus far and has not challenged the authenticity of the viral video alleging corruption.

Warisan reminds the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) that there are more significant issues that need to be understood.

In a statement released on Saturday, Warisan asserted that the key question they must address is “whether the Chief Minister and the involved assembly members received advance payments from other parties in exchange for the approval of mining licenses (PL).”.

Mohd Azis pointed out that it is important to note that the PGRS assemblymen themselves acknowledged that the approval of the PL was granted as a reward for their support of Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“The question of whether the approval was revoked by the chief minister or not is not the fundamental issue in the case of the circulated video.

“The core issue is whether or not these leaders received money as a reward for their efforts in applying for the PL after they provided support to the Chief Minister.

“This is their own admission in the video,” he stated.

Allegations of a corruption scandal in Sabah gained attention after several video recordings were leaked by an informant and reported by Malaysiakini.
