KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan is calling on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM) to detain and remand individuals implicated in the alleged corruption scandal in Sabah to assist in the investigation.
“Sometimes, the truth can only be uncovered by remanding those suspected of wrongdoing, as permitted by law,” stated Warisan’s Deputy President, Darell Leiking.
He emphasised that unlike other states in Malaysia, the corruption issue in Sabah has reached a critical level.
“This situation has caused immense suffering for the people of Sabah, with villagers being forced off their land, allegations of illegal logging in Sabah Forest Industry (SFI), and the deplorable conditions of roads, electricity, and water supply.
“The Sabah scandal and the recent episodes of elected representatives switching parties to join GRS (before the anti-hopping law was passed at the state level) should serve as a stark reminder of the severity of this situation,” he remarked in a statement today.
As the world prepares to observe International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9, Leiking expressed that the people of Sabah do not want to hear any international bodies declaring Sabah as the most corrupt state in Malaysia.
“I hope that the SPRM will act independently in their quest for truth and investigate those accused of potential abuse of power and corrupt practices,” he added.
