KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO respects the court’s decision on Monday, which ruled that Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his wife, Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, will defend themselves against corruption charges related to a RM150 million Felcra investment.
Jeffery Nor Mohamed, the Director of UMNO Sabah’s Election Department, stated that Bung is currently in the process of defending himself and has not yet been found guilty by the court.
In this context, he expressed disappointment with the statement made by the Chairman of the Malaysian People’s Power Movement (G57), Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar, who suggested that Bung step down from his position following the court’s ruling.
“Historically, even the UMNO president faced charges and continued to hold the presidency. Why did he (Zulkarnain) not make a similar statement then?” he said in a statement today.
Jeffery, who is also the Putatan UMNO Chief, emphasised that the struggle within UMNO is not about individuals but rather about the party itself.
“If such statements are coming from him (Zulkarnain), it might be better for him to pursue his efforts in another party, as they do not align with the values of Sabah UMNO.
“Zulkarnain mentioned that he fought in 2018, but we lost for a reason, and at that time, the leadership was different. Let the new leadership continue to shape UMNO Sabah’s journey in their own way,” he added.
According to Jeffery, the strength of UMNO Sabah relies not solely on individuals but on the unity of grassroots members without personal agendas.
