PETANAH President Gundohing Gaibin Ransoi stated that the new approach suggested through this devolution of power could assist in detecting and preventing identity fraud that may be used to obtain citizenship.

Furthermore, he noted that this initiative could ensure that the indigenous people of Sabah receive their rightful rights and benefits.

This includes access to education, employment, and economic opportunities, which could ultimately enhance public trust in the citizenship system, he remarked when asked to comment on the proposal.

“For this reason, PETANAH supports the proposal put forth by YB Datuk Seri Salleh for the betterment and future of Sabah,” he added.

Yesterday, former Chief Minister of Sabah Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak proposed that all original residents of Sabah re-register their MyKad to address various documentation issues, including those related to ‘burung-burung’ documents.

Salleh, who is also the Usukan Assemblyman, emphasised that it would be more effective if the entire registration process were managed by the Sabah government.
