Hajiji dedicated to the empowerment of women, economic development, and education: Redonah

KOTA KINABALU: The leadership of the State Government, under the guidance of the Chief Minister and President of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), is characterised by a holistic and compassionate approach to promoting women’s empowerment, economic growth, and educational advancement.

Datuk Redonah Bahanda, the Chief of the Women’s Movement of the Gagasan Rakyat, emphasised that the initiatives and programs introduced by the State Government clearly reflect their dedication to fulfilling their commitments.

“We witness our President, who is also the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, leading the government with a clear focus while ensuring that critical areas such as women’s issues, the economy, and education are not overlooked.”

Since the government assumed control of the state, the economic growth rate was recorded at a negative 7.5 percent.

“However, following the transition in leadership, the situation improved, with growth reaching 1.5 percent in 2021, followed by an increase to 3.5 percent in 2022, and a rise to four percent in 2023, culminating in a surge to 4.5 percent this year,” he stated.

He made these remarks during the Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the Gagasan Rakyat Women’s Movement at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Saturday.

Redonah noted that the state government’s revenue increased from RM5.49 billion in 2021 to RM6.96 billion in 2022 and reached RM6.97 billion in 2023.

Additionally, Redonah highlighted the availability of job opportunities through the bicycle factory and the cement factory, which have created positions for over 2,500 applicants and 170 engineers, primarily from Sabah.

“Moreover, we acknowledge the state government’s initiatives to support the community through the SMJ housing program.”

“This year, an allocation of 20 houses has been designated for each State Assembly (DUN) across the state,” he said.
