KOTA KINABALU: Warisan’s legal adviser, Chin Tek Ming, has claimed that the DAP exhibits “double standards” regarding the partnership between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and PAS in Sabah.
He highlighted the inconsistency in DAP’s stance, which vehemently opposes PAS at the federal level while remaining silent about its alliance with GRS at the state level.
According to reports from FMT, Chin referenced a recent comment made by Sabah DAP secretary and state industrial development and entrepreneurship minister, Phoong Jin Zhe, who stated that DAP would not engage with PAS in the upcoming Sabah elections.
Chin pointed out that Aliakbar Gulasan, the Sabah PAS commissioner, serves as an assemblyman appointed by GRS, which he believes contradicts Phoong’s statement.
He described this situation as a mere political manoeuvre for publicity.
“If you genuinely stand by your principles, you should resign from your ministerial role and the state government to show your disapproval of PAS. Otherwise, your statements are nothing more than political trickery,” he asserted.
Chin further remarked that DAP and Sabah PH should not have aligned themselves with the GRS government in the first place.
On Monday, Aliakbar indicated that Sabah PAS is open to various possibilities for the upcoming elections and is satisfied with its current relationship with GRS.
His appointment as a nominated assemblyman in 2020 marked a historic first for PAS in the state, but it faced significant backlash from the public and opposition figures, who feared it might lead to the introduction of extreme religious and political ideologies that could disrupt the state’s harmony.
