SANDAKAN: The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is capable of pulling off a surprise win in the Sekong seat in the upcoming state election.

“I personally believe that GRS has no issues in contributing a new seat in the Sekong area,” said Datuk Masiung Banah, Vice President of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat).

He made these remarks after officiating the Annual General Meeting of Gagasan Rakyat Sekong at the Sandakan Community Hall, which saw over 1,000 representatives and observers in attendance on Monday.

As the Coordinator for Gagasan Rakyat in Zone 10 of the Batu Sapi, Kinabatangan, and Sandakan parliamentary areas, he expressed optimism that the Sekong state seat has significant potential to belong to GRS in the upcoming 17th state election.

“Although Sekong is currently represented by the opposition, its people should not be left isolated without government provisions through their elected representatives.

“Moreover, Warisan is now under pressure after demonstrating a lacklustre administration reminiscent of ‘ala Semporna’ following their 22-month governance four years ago,” he added.

In the Batu Sapi parliamentary constituency, the slogan “We defend Karamunting DUN, we conquer Sekong” has been created to inspire GRS leaders and supporters.

Masiung is confident that the Gagasan Rakyat Sekong, led by Safarudin Abu, has built a strong foundation as a major force for the party to help GRS achieve victory in the area.

As the Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB), he proudly noted that Gagasan Rakyat Sekong was among the first to establish a multi-tiered election machinery, including youth, women, and young women’s wings.

With over 200 branches and more than 7,000 party members in Sekong, Masiung is convinced that the Warisan seat in the area can be claimed.
