PENAMPANG: The government is urged to speed up the construction of a new hospital in Penampang due to the growing population and rapid development in the area that has recently been upgraded to a municipal council.
In making the call, KDM President Datuk Peter Anthony emphasized that this facility would significantly enhance healthcare access for thousands of residents in the Penampang parliamentary constituency and nearby areas, while also helping to reduce the overcrowding at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
“We recognize that Queen Elizabeth Hospital is facing challenges in managing the rising patient numbers and the limited bed capacity,” he remarked.
“Thus, KDM considers this an urgent issue that requires immediate attention,” he added.
Peter made these comments during the launch of the election campaign for the Moyog state assembly and Penampang parliamentary seats at Kampung Gapu Kolopis on Saturday.
He also urged the government to implement long-term strategies to address the persistent flooding problems in Penampang, which includes allocating adequate resources for dredging and deepening the main Moyog River and its tributaries to effectively combat flooding.
Politically, Peter highlighted that the KDM party, which is gaining traction among the people, will continue its outreach efforts across Sabah to connect with citizens in preparation for the upcoming State Election (PRN).
He urged the people of Sabah to rise and unite in support of the party’s struggle in the upcoming state election for a brighter future.
