Its Chief Executive Officer, Ir. Ts. Mohd Yaakod Hj. Jaafar, said that SESB will implement smart meters to encourage users to use electricity more efficiently and save energy.

He said that with smart meters, users can plan their monthly electricity usage and will receive notifications when they approach their monthly bill target.

He added that these new features align with SESB’s commitment to support the government’s goal of benefiting the people by enhancing the digital economy.

The smart meter project will be rolled out in phases, starting with Phase 1, which will install 6,497 units for large power consumers and Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) account holders.

“During this two-month trial phase, 60 units will be installed for selected users to ensure smooth billing operations. The remaining 6,437 units will be installed once the trial phase meets its objectives,” he said in a media statement today.

He explained that Phase 2 of the project is planned for 2025, targeting domestic users in Kota Kinabalu and the Federal Territory of Labuan, in line with the KK Smart City and WP Labuan Smart Island themes.
