LAHAD DATU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has filed a police report regarding illegal connections and electricity theft that have caused nearly RM1 million in losses due to actions by squatters in Kampung Puyut.
The chairman, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, along with the SESB team, inspected the area and found that illegal connections were being made openly.
He said that this issue is very serious, prompting him to report it to the Lahad Datu Police Headquarters.
“We estimate that over 1,000 homes in Kampung Puyut are making illegal connections, leading to significant losses for SESB, amounting to around RM1 million.
This report requests the police to investigate who is involved in these illegal activities,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Madius urged for a swift investigation to determine whether the illegal connections are made by the squatters in Kampung Puyut or by a syndicate or cartel.
“If so, what penalties can be imposed on those involved? I also ask the police to investigate the actual losses incurred by SESB due to these electricity thefts and illegal connections,” Madius explained.
