In making the call, Sabah UMNO Information Chief Suhaimi Nasir emphasised the necessity for a detailed explanation from both the Chief Minister and the Minister of Youth and Sports in Sabah regarding the state government’s commitment to contributing financial support.

This call for clarity follows a recent statement from Finance Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun, who expressed his unawareness of the commitment made by the Sabah government.

Suhaimi questioned whether Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun was implying that YB Hannah Yeoh, the Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, was being dishonest, or if his denial was merely a tactic to obscure the failures within the GRS government.

The Libaran MP also raised concerns about whether this indicated a personal decision that disregarded the collective agreement of the Sabah cabinet.

“Therefore, the Chief Minister and the Minister of Youth and Sports should provide a prompt and transparent explanation,” he said in a statement today.

Suhaimi highlighted that since the funds in question are taxpayer money, the public has a right to know how their contributions are being utilised.

“This situation exemplifies the failure of a government that lacks a mandate from the people, relying solely on its own political agenda. There is no clear direction, which ultimately complicates matters for the citizens,” he stated.

Previously, Hannah Yeoh had mentioned that the Sabah government (GRS) would contribute RM100 million towards the organisation of the SEA Games 2027.
