Emphasising the importance of nurturing the young talent and the next generation within the architecture community, he said the future of the architecture profession and also of Sabah lies in the hands of the next generation.

“It is the responsibility of the current generations to mentor and guide the young aspiring architects, providing them with the necessary resources and opportunities to flourish and excel,” he said at PAM Sabah Chapter 47th Annual Dinner and PAM Sabah Awards Night Magellan Sutera Harbour, here last night.

Dr. Joachim, who is also the Local Government and Housing Minister, also expressed his commitment to supporting and promoting the architectural community in Sabah, saying Sabah architects play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for all Sabahans through their thoughtful designs and creative solutions.

Architecture is not merely about constructing buildings; it is about shaping our communities, preserving our heritage, and envisioning our future.

“With its rich cultural diversity and stunning natural beauty, Sabah deserves nothing short of outstanding architectural designs that complement its unique identity.

“The state’s growth and development must be balanced with preserving our heritage and protecting the environment. Architects play a crucial role in striking this balance, creating structures that blend seamlessly with the surroundings while meeting the evolving needs of our society.

“Let us also reflect on the common principles that guide us, i.e., sustainability, cultural sensitivity, and community engagement. These principles not only shape our buildings but also define our identity as a state committed to responsible development and preservation of our natural and cultural heritage,” he said.

Congratulating all the new architects and award recipients, he said their passion and dedication to excellence in architecture have helped elevate Sabah’s architectural standards and set high benchmarks for others.
