KOTA KINABALU: Putatan Umno division chief Jeffrey Nor Mohamed defends Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar’s statement regarding the failure of local parties to develop Sabah.
He said history proves that Sabah has been neglected by local parties since the time of Usno, Berjaya, and PBS, yet development still lags far behind other states.
According to him, one of the reasons for this is the lack of political stability, as well as the commitment of its leaders to develop the state.
“Until 1990, when there was a request from some local leaders for Umno to enter Sabah, and when Umno/BN took over the reins of government in Sabah, only then could political stability be established and rapid development implemented,” he said.
Jeffrey was commenting on the recent statement by Parti Solidariti Tanahairku (Star Sabah) Deputy President, Datuk Kenny Chua, who blamed the failure to develop Sabah on BN and parties from Malaya.
According to Kenny Chua in his recent media statement, Sabah is poor because its wealth and rights were taken away six decades ago by parties based in the peninsula and the GRS State government, and the people of Sabah inherit this sad legacy.
Jeffrey, who is also the Sabah UMNO Election Director, said that once Umno/BN took over the government of Sabah, development for the people of Sabah was much better than what was done by the previous local party-based government.
“The people of Sabah have witnessed how Umno/BN, when governing this state, implemented rapid development; schools, universities (UMS), hospitals, and the Pan Borneo Highway are clear examples of the mega development that Umno/BN brought during their governance,” he said.
