KOTA KINABALU: UMNO needs to identify the most suitable approach to regain support and restore the confidence of the Malays in UMNO, especially with the upcoming 16th general election (PRU16), said former UMNO treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.
He believes that UMNO should choose one of two existing options at this time.
While outlining the options open to UMNO, Salleh, who is also the former Sabah Chief Minister, said the first option is to take the view that the Malays owe a lot to UMNO for its efforts to gain independence in 1957 and the various special assistance provided by UMNO to the Malays.
The Usukan assemblyman also proposed the second option, which is to take the view that UMNO owes a lot to the Malays for giving UMNO the opportunity to rule the country for 60 years.
“I am confident that if we choose the right approach and have the right attitude, then the hope of withdrawing support and restoring the confidence of the Malays in UMNO will be achieved,” said the former federal minister in his latest Facebook post.
