Madius fights unwaveringly for all applications for the Bahasa Kadazandusun programme to be accepted into the PISMP

KOTA KINABALU: Tuaran MP Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau has appealed to the Ministry of Education (MOE) to approve the applications of all 51 students for the upcoming intake of the Bahasa Kadazandusun option through the Bachelor of Education Teaching Programme (PISMP) at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Kent Campus in Tuaran.

The former Sabah Deputy Chief Minister disagreed with the written reply provided by MOE to his verbal question during the Dewan Rakyat Parliamentary Session in Kuala Lumpur recently.

“KPM may have forgotten to mention that they did not admit Bahasa Kadazandusun option students in 2022 and 2023.

“However, we are grateful that the Minister of MOE visited the IPG Kent Campus last April and announced that admissions will reopen this year.

“Thankfully, I have been informed that there are 51 candidates who have applied and all are eligible, but the available quota is only for around 26 students.

“Considering the lack of student admissions for the Bahasa Kadazandusun programme for two years, I request that MOE approve the applications of all 51 students for the upcoming intake,” Madius said in a recent statement here.

Earlier, MOE, in its reply, stated that

A total of 1,123 Bahasa Kadazandusun option students nationwide have been trained through the PISMP at the IPG Kent Campus, Tuaran, since 2001.

The MOE announced that out of this number, the government has allocated a total of RM28,973,400.00 for student allowances over a five-year study period.

“Student intake will be conducted once a year, in the month of June. All trained students are based on MOE estimates,” MOE said.
