TONGOD: Tongod, located in the heart of Sabah, is set to become the main producer of hilly paddy in the country soon.
The Kuamut Member Assemblyman, Datuk Masiung Banah, said that Tongod, the largest district in Sabah with an area of 10,054 square kilometres, surpassing the state of Kedah, will be able to realise the project if the Sabah government agrees to the proposal.
He was asked to comment on the new project proposal after officiating the Gagasan Rakyat Meeting at the Inarad Voting District Centre, located 160 kilometres from Tongod town.
Masiung said that nearly 4,000 acres have been made available through collaboration with local farmers, and an additional 20,000 acres are needed to establish Tongod as the largest paddy producer in Sabah.
He is confident that, with comprehensive assistance and support from various government agencies, the district can move forward in the hill-paddy-based food industry.
