Pandikar calls for a major overhaul of state government administration

KOTA KINABAlU: Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, needs to undertake a major overhaul involving the State Government Administration of Sabah as a step to restore the people’s confidence.

The President of the United Sabah National Organisation (USNO), Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, said that the overhaul should start from the State Secretary’s Office to the district offices throughout the state.

He said that this is in response to the appointment of Tengku Ahmad Fuad Tengku Burhanuddin as the attorney representing the Sabah State Government in handling the Sabah Law Society’s judicial review application with the Federal Government of Malaysia.

“I was very surprised when I found out and read the appointment letter of Tengku Datuk Fuad. The explanation given by Hajiji Noor to the President of the component party of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) on May 17th was that Tengku Datuk Fuad did not receive any appointment from the state government,” he said in a statement today.

Pandikar said that, among other things, he criticised the Sabah Law Society as an unauthorised body and as meddlers, which he deemed a reasonable explanation to be discarded in the trash and seen as embarrassing for the Attorney General of Sabah.

“The action taken by the Attorney General of the State in not taking the case seriously is very concerning for the people of Sabah, especially when on the day of the hearing, he was out of the country.

“Not a single officer from the State Attorney’s Department accompanied Tengku Datuk Fuad to the court, which I consider an act of betraying the aspirations of the people of Sabah,” explained Pandikar.

According to him, the people of Sabah expect the state government, through its attorney, to cooperate with the national attorney representing the federal government on the day of the hearing.

“But what happened was the opposite. Due to such reasons, it is viewed as a betrayal,” he said.
