He emphasised the importance of the provisions outlined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and stated that it is the responsibility of our present-day political leaders to ensure its resolution and implementation.

Ligunjang referred to the King’s speech during the opening of Parliament, where the resolution and implementation of MA63 were explicitly emphasized as crucial for the betterment of our nation.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the sacrifices and dedication of those who signed the agreement, emphasising the responsibility of all Malaysians to faithfully adhere to its terms.

He stressed that there should be no further negotiations or manipulations regarding the content of MA63.

Instead, Ligunjang said the focus should solely be on implementing the agreed-upon provisions.

“This change in approach is particularly significant for the states of Sabah and Sarawak, which have felt disappointed and let down by the Federal Government’s non-compliance with MA63 over the past 60 years,” he said.

Ligunjang criticised UMNO leaders for cunningly amending the Federal Constitution to diminish the sovereignty of Sabah and Sarawak, betraying MA63.

He acknowledged the sense of betrayal felt by these states and emphasized that the implementation of MA63 will bring about positive changes for them.

He stated that Sabah and Sarawak have long awaited the fulfillment of the commitments made in the agreement, and it is crucial that their aspirations are recognized and honored.

“By faithfully implementing MA63, the past non-compliance can be rectified, bridging the gap between the Federal Government and the expectations of these two states,” he said.

Ligunjang concluded by emphasising the weight of history that falls heavily upon all Malaysians.

He believes that the successful implementation of MA63 will not only heal the wounds of the past but also pave the way for a brighter future for Sabah and Sarawak.
