KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Sabah has arrested a man suspected of deceiving a contractor into giving a bribe of approximately RM150,000 in exchange for a non-existent repair project at a school in Beluran.
According to sources, the suspect, who is in his 60s and self-employed, requested and received the bribe, claiming that it would help the contractor secure the project worth around RM1.5 million, even though the project does not exist.
“The incident took place around 2019, when the suspect promised to assist the victim in obtaining the said project.
“The suspect was arrested at the MACC Sabah office at around 10:30 a.m. this morning to provide a statement,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of MACC Sabah, Datuk S. Karunanithy, confirmed the arrest of the suspect and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
He added that the suspect will be charged at the Special Corruption Court here on Tuesday.
