KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Kerusk has urged the federal government to designate a representative from the state Barisan Nasional (BN) to the council responsible for executing decisions related to the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.
FMT has reported that Salleh, the Sabah UMNO treasurer, has voiced his endorsement for the suggestion to enhance East Malaysian representation in the MA63 council.
However, he has stressed the significance of incorporating Sabah BN as well.
Salleh highlighted the longstanding involvement of Sabah BN in discussions regarding the state’s autonomy and rights, even prior to the establishment of the council, as evidence of their strong commitment to the welfare of Sabah.
He asserted that having a seat on the council would ensure that their efforts are directly translated into actionable policies, benefiting not only their community but the entire region in the true spirit of federalism.
Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof announced that a proposal has been drafted to include two federal ministers in the MA63 implementation action council to represent Sarawak and Sabah.
The Borneo Post reported that Aaron Ago Dagang, the national unity minister, was proposed for Sarawak, while Ewon Benedick, the minister of entrepreneur development and cooperatives, was proposed for Sabah.
Ewon currently serves as the president of Upko, a component of Pakatan Harapan that was previously part of Barisan Nasional until the 14th general election in 2018.
