KOTA KINABALU: The issue of numerous potholes in Sabah consistently captures the attention of internet users nationwide.
This time, a post featuring a photograph of a road filled with potholes and banana trees caught the attention of netizens, leading to a lively discussion on social media platforms.
The act of planting banana trees on the potholed road is seen as a “sarcastic gesture” towards the department responsible for maintaining and ensuring the good condition of Sabah’s roads.
According to a Facebook post by Muhammad Arifin, the road is located between Kilometres 117 and 118 from Sandakan to Lahad Datu, Paris 1.
It is believed to be close to a recent tragic accident involving children.
“It is only 500 metres away from the site of the recent accident. We are concerned that the Public Works Department (JKR) might overlook this pothole, so we decided to draw their attention with a prominent sign (by planting banana trees),” he wrote.
The post was shared on Monday and has garnered 53 comments, in addition to being shared by 337 other Facebook users.
Glen Rodriguez suggests that banana trees should be planted along the road so that the fruits can be harvested in the future.
In his message, he also mentions the relevant agencies and ministers, including JKR and ministers from Sabah and the Federation.
