KOTA KINABALU: The cleanliness standards of fish hawking activities in the SAFMA Kota Kinabalu Fisheries Complex area must be enhanced in the near future to ensure the comfort of the public.
The Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall, Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah, announced that an official discussion will be conducted with Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd (SAFMA) to ensure that fish vendors adhere to the established guidelines.
Dr Sabin expressed dissatisfaction with the current level of cleanliness in the SAFMA Fisheries Complex area, which has resulted in complaints from the public in the state capital.
“While there is still room for improvement in terms of cleanliness at SAFMA, formal discussions between DBKK and SAFMA are necessary,” he stated.
During his visit to the SAFMA Fisheries Complex and Kota Kinabalu Market, Dr Sabin personally observed the fish selling activities and acknowledged the unsatisfactory cleanliness level. However, he emphasized that there is potential for improvement in the near future.
In addition, Dr Sabin announced that DBKK will organize a cleanliness competition among stall traders in the vicinity of Kota Kinabalu Market.
“This initiative aims to encourage traders to enhance the appearance of their stalls while prioritizing cleanliness at all times.
“We urge stall traders to always prioritize cleanliness as the Pasar Besar area is frequently visited by the public and tourists for their daily supplies,” Dr Sabin explained during the media briefing.
