KOTA KINABALU: SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee does not have the “moral standing” to advise any party not to contest or get involved in the upcoming Sabah state election.
Sabah UMNO election directorJeffery Nor Mohamed said this was because Yong, as the head of SAPP, did not have a clear stand.
“He (Yong) said that GRS supports the Perpaduan government, but at the same time, SAPP is clearly part of the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
“Did he forget that he himself attended the six-state election meeting organized by Perikatan Nasional on July 17, 2023?
“Before advising any party, reflect on himself first and state whether he supports the Unity Government or PN,” he said in a statement here today.
Jeffrey, who is also Putatan UMNO division chief, said Yong seems to forget that the original formation of the Sabah state government was between Bersatu and Sabah BN, and thus he secured the post of Nominated Assemblyman.
He said Yong’s statement came after the results of the six-state elections on the peninsula, but “it should be remembered that politics are dynamic and the six-state election results cannot be taken as a merit for the achievements of the present Unity Government.”
“If this is the truth, I challenge him to make a statement not to support the unity government now and ask the GRS to also express real support for their stance on the unity government,” he said.
Jeffrey said it was time for Yong to state SAPP’s true stance to the people of Sabah, whether they were with the unity government or PN.
“Don’t be two-faced.” You can’t be a supporter of the unity government while at the same time holding the position of deputy chairman of Perikatan Nasional.
“Therefore, I challenge him to express his position because, for me, it is more important to enable the people to judge,” he said.
