KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO will use the Selangor election campaign as a testing ground for new strategies for upcoming elections in Sabah.
Sabah State UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin said his side would like to see if the new strategy, which focuses on the use of social media, would be effective, which would have a significant impact on the election campaign’s strategy in Selangor.
“If effective, we plan to introduce this new strategy in our next election in Sabah, in addition to our traditional face-to-face campaigns.
We observe how elections are conducted in today’s world, particularly in urban areas, using a new platform called social media. We now realise that social media should be the focus, as opposed to the past when we had to meet in person,” he said here today.
Bung Mokhtar, also a member of the UMNO Supreme Council, said this, among other things, contributed to the outcome of the last General Election (GE), with candidates and parties taking advantage of new media trends gaining support from younger voters.
Meanwhile, UMNO Sabah sent 300 members from the Women, Youth and Puteri UMNO divisions to support the election campaigns of Selangor’s BN candidates and Pakatan Harapan candidates as well as sending some top leaders to campaign in other states, namely Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu.
He said that in Selangor, of course, the focus is on Sabahans who work and are voters there, who are estimated to be more than 10,000 people.
