KOTA KINABALU: It is crucial for Sabah and Sarawak to establish a Parliamentary Caucus in the Malaysian Parliament to safeguard the rights of the Borneon States.

Originally separate entities, Sabah and Sarawak joined forces to become part of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. As equal partners within the federation, Sabah and Sarawak were promised certain safeguards and autonomy under the Malaysia Agreement. However, the rights of Sabah and Sarawak have been progressively eroded over the years, putting us at a disadvantage position. By forming a Parliamentary Caucus, representatives from Sabah and Sarawak can collectively advocate for the preservation of our rights and interests.

The establishment of a Parliamentary Caucus empowers lawmakers from Sabah and Sarawak to collectively address issues that are specific to our states. This ensures that our concerns are not overlooked or overshadowed by the predominantly Malaya-centric politics. Through unity, the Borneon States can voice their opinions, propose relevant policies, and effectively fight for our rights.

The formation of a Parliamentary Caucus enables representatives from Sabah and Sarawak to collaboratively develop comprehensive policies that take into account the unique needs, challenges, and aspirations of our states. By presenting a collective and united front, they can ensure that legislation and policies are inclusive and equitable, thereby safeguarding the interests of the Borneon States.

Sabah and Sarawak possess rich biodiversity, natural resources, and cultural diversity. However, there have been concerns regarding the equitable distribution of resources between the federal government and Sabah and Sarawak States. Through the establishment of a Parliamentary Caucus, representatives from Sabah and Sarawak can collectively advocate for fairer resource allocation, ensuring that our states receive a just share of the revenues generated from our natural resources.

The Borneon States also face distinct socio-economic challenges in areas such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and poverty eradication. A Parliamentary Caucus dedicated to protecting the rights of Sabah and Sarawak allows lawmakers to champion policies and secure the necessary resources for the sustainable development of both states. It enables them to address critical issues such as rural development, transportation, and connectivity, which are essential for the progress of Sabah and Sarawak.

In conclusion, the establishment of a Parliamentary Caucus for Sabah and Sarawak is crucial to safeguard our rights and interests within the Federation of Malaysia.
