Acknowledging the need to move with the times, PBS Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam welcomed the entry of young people and professionals into the 38-year-old party.

“Indeed, PBS has many young leaders as well as qualified and quality professionals. We hope that these people can promote and attract more youths and professionals into our party,” he said.

Dr. Joachim said this when officiating the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Moyog PBS Division at Turongou Farmstay, here, on Sunday.

Dr. Joachim, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, congratulated Moyog PBS Division chief John Chryso Masabal for successfully holding the AGM, attended by 150 delegates and observers.

He said PBS wants to increase the number of quality members who can vote for party candidates in the next state elections.

“We also want these new members to follow all party ideology or principles and support whatever decisions adopted by PBS,” said the State Minister of Local Government and Housing.

“Whoever is chosen as a candidate, we’re going to campaign in full without division,” he said.

According to him, the current political situation in Sabah also proves that there is no longer a single party which can rule on its own as before.

“Currently, the Government can only be formed through a coalition of political parties that form an alliance which is the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS). Thus, PBS made it clear its position on the formation of cooperation in GRS,” he said.

“At the highest leadership level we also work with all GRS components. PBS doesn’t have a problem with GRS adopting only one logo for the upcoming state elections,” he added.

Dr. Joachim suggested that all members of the PBS party should fully support a candidate if there is one among their colleagues in the Party.

PBS has 73 divisions in each State Legislative Assembly (DUN) in Sabah and it has one division in Labuan.

Also present were members of the PBS Supreme Council.
