14 Filipinos detained during integrated ESSCOM operation

LAHAD DATU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) detained 14 Filipinos after screening 1,555 individuals during a seven-day integrated operation since Feb 20, in Semporna, said its commander Datuk Hamzah Ahmad.
He also said 102 individuals were also arrested to be documented followed by the arrest of 14 Filipinos aged between 17 and 47, for offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amended 2002), Immigration Regulations 1963  and the Passport Act 1966.
“We also checked 440 houses including pondohan (small huts) in 11 locations in and around Pulau Bum Bum as well as the clusters of Pulau Bodgaya and Bohey Dulang together with the Semporna District Office  Enforcement Division, the Semporna District Council and the Labour Department.
“We also disconnected illegal electrical connections while the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) seized 110 kilogrammes of electrical cables and imposed fines while the district council issued compounds. We also checked 316 vehicles and 76 traffic summonses were issued,” he said in a statement here today.
Hamzah also said the ESSCom will increase its efforts to ensure that safety in the areas surrounding the East Sabah Safety Zone (ESSZone) remains guaranteed.
Meanwhile, he said he hoped that the community in the zone would relay any information involving any incident in the ESSZone area by contacting the ESSCOM Operations Centre at 089-863181 or through the WhatsApp application at 011-63311072.
