KOTA KINABALU: Kapayan Community Development Leader Lu Yen Tung yesterday disclosed that DBKK Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip has given the green light for a temporary night market at the Kepayan Rumah Murah shophouses area in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year celebration.
Lu in a statement on Saturday said that the night market will be held on January 29 and 30 from 1pm to 12midnight.
He added that 25 lots for stalls will be available and those interested need to apply with DBKK for the lots.
“More information about the night market will be announced by DBKK soon,” said Lu adding that it will be the first time a night market in conjunction with the lunar new year is being held there.
“The Covid-19 pandemic had affected many families the past two years. Seeing that the source of income for many of them was affected, I wrote in to the DBKK Mayor with a proposal to allow a night market here in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year which will be celebrated on February 1 and she approved it,” said Lu.
Lu however reminded the vendors and visitors to the night market to fully adhere to the SOPs implemented by the government to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
“They must have completed two doses of the Covid-19 vaccination, wear a face mask and practice social distancing when at the night market,” he stressed.
