KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s new Covid-19 cases jumped to 322 cases today and it is largely due to two clusters — Tembok Tawau (Tawau prison) cluster and Tembok Kota Kinabalu (Kapayan prison) cluster.
Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said that the Tembok Tawau cluster contributed 97 new cases while Tembok Kota Kinabalu cluster contributed 26 new cases.
“Nearly all of those involved are detainees or prisoners who are doing their sentence,” he said.
He added that about 74 percent of the new cases are from available clusters as well as close contacts attained from targeted screening.
Sabah recorded 322 new Covid-19 cases today, a jump of 92 cases from yesterday. Also reported is one casualty in the Tawau district.
Masidi also announced the enforcement of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for two new areas in Sabah today.
The EMCO will be enforced at Taman Zifa, Bingkul in Beaufort from July 5 to July 18 following the discovery of 21 positive cases of Covid-19 following a screening carried out on 50 villagers.
EMCO will also be taking place at Kampung Simpangan, Kota Marudu from July 5 to July 18 following the detection of 10 positive cases after 64 screening test were carried out.
