Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR) killed in collision with delivery truck

PENAMPANG: A member of the Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR) was killed in an accident with a delivery truck today.

The victim, 33, was also a part-time food rider and was believed to be on his way to make his delivery when he collided with the delivery truck along Jalan Papar Lama at about 1.50pm today. He was believed to have died on-the-spot.

Penampang District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent, Mohd Haris Ibrahim said that based on their early investigation, the accident was believed to have been caused by the negligence of the delivery truck driver who failed to control the vehicle.

“During the incident, the victim was believed to be on his way to deliver food before colliding with the truck. The truck driver was believed to have failed to control the vehicle which rammed the road divider and entered the opposite lane.

“Because of that, the delivery truck allegedly rammed into the motorcyclist who was dragged several meters before falling into a ditch at the side of the road,” he said.

He said that the victim was confirmed dead by the Kota Kinabalu Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 medical officer who was present at the location while the truck driver escaped injury.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(a) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.

Mohd Haris also urged the public to abstain from disseminating / sharing the video recording taken by the Close Circuit TV (CCTV) and be sensitive to the victim’s family.

He also said that doing so will also disturb the investigation

A team of firefighters from the Penampang Fire and Rescue station were on site to remove the victim’s body.
