Sabah’s Political Model Should be Used At the Federal Level – Mandela

KOTA KINABALU: Perikatan National’s success, together with its partners, Umno and PBS in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) State Government for the last six months since winning the State Elections should be used as an example to achieve political stability, especially at the Federal level.

According to Armada Bersatu Malaysia Vice Chief, Ceasar Mandela Malakun, Sabah’s political model should be used at the Federal level as well as other states to ensure a strong and stable government that focuses on leading the nation towards economic development, especially post-COVID-19.

“The people have made their voices heard loud and clear during the State Elections when the GRS Government under the leadership of Chief Minister YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor was chosen to helm the State Government.

“Therefore, we should learn from past failures and build on the success that we have now to continue to uphold the mandate given by the people to us as it is not a privilege but a huge responsibility because it carries the people’s hope for a better state and future.

He said that it is also crucial that for a State Government to be aligned with the Federal government in order to deliver on the aspirations of the people.

“This is also clearly what the people wants. The Sabah Elections took place after the Perikatan National government came into power under the leadership of Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Federal opposition Warisan State Government was toppled.

“I believe we received a big indication of the current political climate and the true sentiments of the people to have a united government, both State and Federal.”

He added that such an alignment between State and Federal is also what allows the GRS government to run smoothly and effectively, despite coming into power in the midst of a global pandemic.

According to Malakun, part ofPakatan Harapan’s downfall during their short reign was Democratic Action Party (DAP)’s unwillingness to be moderate during their 22 months in power.

“Trying to behave as a multiracial party is a good attempt but so far it has been only a cosmetic attempt. It is still perceived as a chauvinistic single-race party.

“The people want a strong and balanced government that encompasses the needs and wants of the people from all walks of life and racial backgrounds.
