TONGOD: A total of 7889 households under the B40 category in Tongod will receive food basket assistance from the State Government.
The assistance in the form of food items was symbolically presented by Sabah Housing and Town Development Board Chairman Datuk Masiung Banah to 42 chairmen of Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK), representing all villages in the district at the Tongod Open Hall, yesterday.
“The assistance given by the State Government is meant to alleviate the burden of the people who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic Movement Control Order (MCO),” said Masiung, who also thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor for approving the allocation of the food basket assistance to the district.
In addition, a total of 2432 sets of food basket assistance were allocated to the district for households registered under the e-Kasih system.
“As of 18 February, 2245 sets have been distributed. The remaining 187 sets will be distributed during the weekend,” he added.
Masiung, who is also the Kuamut Assemblyman also provided 4000 sets of food baskets to villagers in the district who have not yet received any food basket assistance from the State Government under both categories.
Also present during the event were District Officer Mohd. Fauzi Norbeh, Assistant District Officer (Administration) Cleophas John Gordon, Community Development Leader Tokyo Abdul Hasim and representatives from Federal and State Government agencies.
