Colombia’s defense minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo, who is currently battling the COVID-19 infection, is said to be in a critical condition.
Colombiareports, on Monday, quoted the President’s Office as saying that Trujillo, 69, tested positive on Tuesday last week.
The reports said Trujillo was taken to hospital where doctors found the coronavirus caused an acute viral pneumonia.
According to weekly Semana, the 69-year-old minister was being treated for high blood pressure before being infected.
According to the President’s office, until the minister improves, Armed Forces commander General Luis Fernando Navarro will assume the minister’s responsibilities.
Vice-Minister Marta Lucia Ramirez overcame COVID-19 without complications after she was infected in November last year.
