KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s decision to temporarily close\u00a0schools detected to have triggered COVID-19 clusters is aimed at preventing more\u00a0students and teachers from getting infected, said state\u00a0Local Government and Housing Minister\u00a0Datuk Masidi Manjun.
\nHe said such a move would keep the COVID-19 infection\u00a0localised and prevent it from spreading to other areas.
\n\u201cThis drastic action is also a reminder to all school managements\u00a0to take proactive measures to reduce the risk of infection to students and teachers.
\nAll standard operating procedures (SOP) at the place of work or school must be enforced tightly,\u201d said the Sabah government COVID-19 spokesman in a statement\u00a0tonight.
\nYesterday, the Sabah government directed all schools involved in\u00a0COVID-19 clusters to be closed immediately for between two and\u00a0three weeks, subject to confirmation of the State Health Department, to curb the spread\u00a0of the pandemic.
\nHowever, learning sessions for all students who would be sitting for major examinations could be continued with strict\u00a0compliance to\u00a0the SOP among students,\u00a0teachers and staff.
\nSabah has recorded 10 clusters involving educational institutions since last week.
\nMasidi said 267 new COVID-19\u00a0cases were recorded today, bringing the cumulative figure for infections to 247,379.
\nAnother\u00a0202 patients have recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to\u00a0238,900,\u00a0while 775 people were still receiving treatment, he added.
