{"id":9733,"date":"2022-01-25T08:49:35","date_gmt":"2022-01-25T00:49:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=9733"},"modified":"2022-01-25T08:49:35","modified_gmt":"2022-01-25T00:49:35","slug":"sabah-to-conduct-data-collection-exercise-to-address-illegal-immigration-bung-moktar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2022\/01\/25\/sabah-to-conduct-data-collection-exercise-to-address-illegal-immigration-bung-moktar\/","title":{"rendered":"Sabah to conduct data collection exercise to address illegal immigration &#8211; Bung Moktar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government will implement a special programme to collect data on\u00a0foreign workers and non-residents beginning\u00a0next month to address the issue of illegal immigrants in the state, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.<br \/>\nThe\u00a0Sabah Foreign\u00a0National Management Technical Committee co-chairman said the programme\u00a0was important to know the exact number of foreign workers and immigrants in the state.<br \/>\nHe said all the information including the biometric data of those involved\u00a0would then\u00a0be brought to the Federal Government and the Sabah Government to find a solution to the decades-old\u00a0issue.<br \/>\n&#8220;If the issue is\u00a0not managed well, other issues may arise with respect to\u00a0security, social wellbeing, welfare, education, environment and many others,\u201d he said after chairing the technical committee meeting which was also attended by\u00a0Deputy Home Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said at Menara Kinabalu here today.<br \/>\nBung Moktar said it was currently difficult to determine the number of foreigners in the state due to data discrepancies between the agencies and departments involved, therefore the programme was also expected to improve coordination\u00a0to enable follow-up action to be implemented properly.<br \/>\nWe will conduct data collection for all sectors to ensure not a single person is left out,&#8221; he said, adding that the plantation sector employed the most number of foreigners in the state.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, in a statement issued in conjunction with the data collection programme, Bung Moktar said it would be\u00a0implemented by Smart Sabah Corporation Sdn Bhd &#8211;\u00a0a company wholly owned by the Sabah Government &#8211;\u00a0between Feb 3 and Aug 2 this year.<br \/>\nAccording to the statement, after the programme ends, there will be a crackdown against illegal foreign workers through integrated operations.<br \/>\n&#8212; BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government will implement a special programme to collect data on\u00a0foreign workers and non-residents beginning\u00a0next month to address the issue of illegal immigrants in the state, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
