KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia\u2019s (BNM) international reserves amounted to\u00a0US$116.9 billion as at Dec 31,\u00a02021, marginally lower compared with\u00a0US$116.3 billion\u00a0on Dec 15.\u00a0
\nIn a statement today, the central bank said the reserves position is sufficient to finance 7.7 months of retained imports and is 1.2 times total short-term external debt.
\nBNM said the main components of the international reserves were foreign currency reserves (US$104.1\u00a0billion), IMF reserves position (US$1.4 billion), special drawing rights (SDRs) (US$6.0\u00a0billion), gold (US$2.3\u00a0billion), and other reserve assets (US$3.1\u00a0billion).
\nOn\u00a0the\u00a0assets, the central\u00a0bank\u00a0said they comprised gold, foreign exchange\u00a0and other reserves, including SDRs (RM486.79\u00a0billion),\u00a0Malaysian government papers (RM12.21\u00a0billion), deposits with financial institutions (RM880.26\u00a0million), loans and advances (RM22.87\u00a0billion), land and buildings (RM4.16 billion), and other assets (RM24.65\u00a0billion).
\nCapital and liabilities comprised paid-up capital amounting\u00a0to RM100 million, reserves (RM186.75\u00a0billion), currency in circulation (RM150.01\u00a0billion), deposits by financial institutions (RM159.89\u00a0billion), federal government deposits (RM8.59\u00a0billion), other deposits (RM4.79 billion), Bank Negara papers (RM7.91\u00a0billion), allocation of SDRs (RM28.15\u00a0billion), and other liabilities (RM5.31\u00a0billion).
