{"id":7963,"date":"2021-11-15T17:10:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T09:10:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/?p=7963"},"modified":"2021-11-15T17:10:27","modified_gmt":"2021-11-15T09:10:27","slug":"keningau-to-become-sabahs-fruit-valley-next-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jesseltontimes.com\/wpmarch2025\/2021\/11\/15\/keningau-to-become-sabahs-fruit-valley-next-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Keningau to become Sabah&#8217;s Fruit Valley next year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR: The Sabah Agriculture Department plans to turn the district of Keningau, Sabah, into a Fruit Valley which focuses on banana,\u00a0lemon and avocado farming to increase the state\u2019s agricultural productivity and income.<br \/>\nDeputy Agriculture and Food Industries Minister\u00a0I\u00a0Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah said the plan would be realised through the establishment of the Apin-Apin Permanent Food Production Park (TKPM) in Keningau, which is expected to be ready next year with an allocation of\u00a0RM2.5 million from the federal government.<br \/>\n\u201cThe government, through the Sabah Agriculture Department will increase the total size of\u00a0TKPM areas in the state with the establishment of four other parks, namely the Sg Koyah\u00a0TKPM, Kinabatangan Phase 2 TKPM,\u00a0 Limbuak Banggi Kudat TKPM, and Ulu Bole Sipitang TKPM, along with two mini TKPMs, one each in\u00a0Ulu Bongawan and Serudong, Kalabakan.<br \/>\nThe increase in the number of\u00a0TKPM within the next 10 years under the 12th and 13th Malaysia Plans will increase the potential of crop production in Sabah as a regional agricultural hub.\u201d<br \/>\nHe said this in reply to\u00a0Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman (Warisan-Sepanggar) who wanted to know the steps taken by the ministry in optimising Sabah\u2019s potential as a regional agricultural hub, at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Ahmad said in order to boost smart agriculture in Sabah, the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) had implemented\u00a0technology transfer in modern agriculture such as fertigation cultivation system especially for rockmelon, ginger, chilli, tomatoes and cherry tomatoes, to expansion officers, private companies and institutes of higher learning.<br \/>\nFor the livestock sector, he said the ministry through the Sabah Veterinary Services Department was striving to implement smart agriculture by applying the latest technologies\u00a0and breeding methods in accordance with the fourth industrial revolution.<br \/>\n\u201cThis includes introducing an integrated cattle breeding system in oil palm plantation.
