Disaster preparedness statewide in anticipation of northeast Monsoon – Hajiji<\/p>\n
PENAMPANG: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has called for disaster preparedness\u00a0throughout the state in anticipation of the northeast monsoon season this month.
\nHajiji said that\u00a0all district disaster management committees statewide had been instructed to be on alert and to place logistic preparations on stand by including temporary evacuation shelters (PPS) in all districts.
\n\u201cThe state government has been also working closely with its federal counterparts through the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) particularly in channelling monetary assistance and allocations in the event of a disaster during the monsoon season.
\nThe government will always prioritise the people\u2019s welfare regardless of their background,\u00a0in line with the \u2018Keluarga Malaysia\u2019 spirit, which underlined the three main thrusts of\u00a0inclusivity, common ground and contentment,\u201d\u00a0he said at the Sabah Cultural Centre here today.
\nEarlier, he presented RM1,000 cash assistance to 200\u00a0household heads who were affected by floods in\u00a0September. The remaining 737\u00a0household heads will receive theirs within the next two weeks.
\nHe also said that the flood\u00a0mitigation programme for the Penampang district is ongoing.
\nThe government will ensure that the project will be completed. Two of the three flood mitigation packages have already been completed,\u201d\u00a0he added.
